Todd C Walker - Wispy Mop Music: News

Happy New Year ! - January 8, 2016

2015 was a fantastic year of wonderful live acoustic music in & around Frederick (MD). I'm looking forward to performing some of my songs, but also hearing new folks and of course, my local musicians in the new year.
Congratulations go to the Frederick Coffee Co & Cafe for hosting another stellar Christmas Holiday Show that raised $1,063 for the Mental Health Association. If you bump into Mike Winder, the owner of the Frederick Coffee Co & Cafe, please thank him for making the FCC the home of live acoustic music in Frederick.
Kudos also go out to Beans In The Belfry, Elk Run Vineyards, Hill Chapel House Concerts, Red Shedman Farm Brewery, Linganore Winecellars, Thorpewood, Songwriters Association of Washington (SAW) and of course Frederick Acoustic Music Enterprise (F.A.M.E.).
Happy New Year !

Spring/Summer 2014 - May 23, 2014

With an unusually cold winter behind us, 2014 spring/summer is turning out to be beautiful here in the mid-Atlantic region. Cool evening and low humidity days are the norm, with a few summer-like warm days here & there - delightful.
Local music is doing extremely well. I'm hosting the Tuesday night open mic talent nite at the Frederick Coffee Company, running sound for the Monday Night Songwriters Showcase at Brewers Alley (upstairs) and hosting/running the every-other Sunday Songwriters Songfest at the Frederick Coffee Company. And, I'm still getting the occasional gig to keep my fingers in shape. If you'd like a weekly update on who is playing where in & around Frederick (MD), please email me at and I'll add your address to the weekly update.
Enjoy the music !

2012 Update - November 30, 2012

2012 has been a wonderful year for live acoustic music in Frederick (MD). I'd like to thank the Frederick Coffee Company (Mike Winder & Crew), Brewers Alley (Phil Bowers), Elk Run Vineyards (Fred & Carol Wilson), Linganore Winecellars (Eric Allen), Beans In The Belfry (Hanna & Jim Politis), and good friends Scott Barrett, Andrew McKnight, Rod Deacey and the entire F.A.M.E. and SAW cast of characters. Without you folks, live acoustic music would be unheard.
I'd also like to thank Gray Burchette (, Jason Harshbarger (, Taylor Guitars (, the late Mike Marler (, Bose (Bose L1 PA's), Shure, Sennheiser, Neumann, and Blue microphones. And lastly, Elixir Strings (the best guitar strings on the planet, in my opinion). These companies have all contributed to helping me make my music sound better.
I look forward to working with all of the above, plus Jeff Feit ( and Doug Smith ( in 2013.

Music Update - October 7, 2011

It has been a terrific year of music. Thank you for coming out and listening. Heartfelt thanks to Karen & Terri for their new friendship. To Robin for her continued support and friendship. To my dear friends Tomy, Rod, John, Ron and the entire Monday Songwriters Showcase crew, thank you for inviting me into your musical family. To Mike at Frederick Coffee Company for his continued support of live acoustic music. To Serena & Tracie at Dublin Roasters for giving local acoustic musicians a new place to play. To Jeff Feit at Torchlight Recording Studio for making me and all my musical friends sound so good on CD. And thanks to 'you'.
I look forward to another great year of live original acoustic music.

New Venue - February 18, 2011

I'm pleased to announce that I will be performing my songs at the new Dublin Roasters at 1780 North Market St in Frederick, MD. This is the area's newest gourmet coffee bar. Comfortable seating, great acoustics and delicious fresh-roasted coffee. Show is Sunday, March 6th from 2-4pm. Please join me.

Happy New Year ! - January 10, 2011

I'm looking forward to a terrific 2011. I've been writing news songs over the past few months. I seem to be leaning towards the 1960's pop rock sound with the latest songs, one one is my best effort at trying to write a song the way Bob Dylan might have (complete with singing nasally). The process has been fun (for me) and hopefully you'll enjoy the new songs. I hope to see you soon. Thank you for supporting original acoustic music.

Panhandle Earth Day Celebration - April 26, 2010

The Panhandle Earth Day Celebration (2nd annual) was a success even though the weather was cool with a little rain (during my set). Many thanks to Todd Coyle and his crew for doing a great job. Thanks for inviting me to perform.

Upcoming Festivals & Shows - April 17, 2010

Spring/Summer has arrived suddenly here in the mid-Atlantic region. The record snowstorms seem like yesterday, but I'm loving this warm weather. Unfortunately, my allergies, like everyone else, are suffering.
I'm flattered to have been asked to perform the opening set at the Earth Day Celebration in Shepherdstown, WV on April 24th (thanks to my friend Todd Coyle). I'm coordinating the upcoming New Market Days Festival on May 1st (two stages of acoustic music).
I'll be hosting four 'Wine Down Fridays' at Elk Run Winery this Summer (thanks to Scott Barrett).
And I'll be performing and emcee'ing at the Mt Airy MayFest on May 16th (again, thanks to Scott Barrett).
The SUNDAY SONGWRITERS SONGFEST I've been coordinating & hosting at Frederick Coffee Company has had a successful Winter and we have some wonderful songwriters joining us for the rest of the Spring/Summer season.
Thanks for supporting original acoustic music.

Sunday Songwriter Songfest - July 20, 2009

The debut Sunday Songwriter Songfest at the Frederick Coffee Company was a success. Many thanks to all performers and listeners who came out on a gorgeous summer day to hear great original acoustic music. We'll see you next month (Aug 2, Aug 16, Aug 30).

Songwriters Songfest Open Mic - July 13, 2009

I'll be hosting a Sunday Songwriters Songfest Open Mic every other Sunday at the Frederick Coffee Co ( beginning July 19, 2009 (3-6pm). Pre-scheduled sign-up is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome as space allows. Original music only. Come out and join the fun.

Recording Session !! - January 29, 2009

I'm finally headed back in to the recording studio to begin work on my new CD (#3). I can't wait to put some new tracks down. This time around I'll be adding some percussion, bass and maybe even some strings. Fun, fun, fun.

It's the Holiday Season ! - November 30, 2008

Happy Holidays ! Although I'm not a big fan of cold weather, I do like the Thanksgiving & Christmas season(s). I enjoy the festivity of it all, and of course, the reason we celebrate both in the first place. May you and yours have a wonderful Holiday Season.

Guitars For Sale - June 4, 2008

I'm thinning out my collection of mid & high level acoustic guitars. Many of these are luthier-built custom guitars, although I do have a couple factory-built low-mid priced guitars that need a new home.
If you are looking for a new guitar, drop me an email. I might just have what you are looking for.
And don't forget that I'm a dealer/installer for KKSound acoustic pickups.

Spring Ahead ! - March 31, 2008

Another beautiful Spring has arrived (on my birthday) and the grass is beginning to turn green. I love this time of year !
I've got some new songs to debut, and some great dates coming to perform them for you. Please come out and help me wipe away the winter cobwebs.
I've got a couple new guitars to show off too.
See you soon.

Stunt Man I'm Not ! - October 7, 2007

Doing a stunt for my weekly television show 'Dining Out', I ended up breaking two bones in my left wrist and two left-side ribs, so performing will have to wait while the bones heal. Guitar playing is 'almost' out-of-the-question, but I've figured out a couple chord shapes that I can manage, so I'm working on a new song, that I'll hopefully debut in a couple months. And just for the record, I "did not have a wreck on my scooter"...I went over the handlebars of a bicycle (doing something I shouldn't have). :-) Hope to see everyone soon.

New Venue !! - September 25, 2007

I was graciously invited to perform at the new Middletown United Methodist Church coffee house ('Thee Coffee House') this past Saturday evening. What a wonderful room - great acoustics, yummy deserts & coffee, and a great audience. I felt instantly at home when I walked in. Thank you to John & Dawn Walker for inviting me. I can't wait to return.

Swanson 'Fat Boy' Guitar - July 8, 2007

I performed at the Frederick Coffee House as a last minute fill-in (the scheduled performer cancelled). Having just received my Swanson 'Fat Boy' Guitar the day before, I decided to try it out. Check out the pics on the photo page. It's a cool looking, great sounding, unique guitar. Mark's guitars can be seen on

Playing outside & guitars. - July 8, 2007

I played (outside) this past Tuesday (July 3rd) at The Great Frederick Float celebration (part of downtown Frederick's 4th of July celebration). Because of being outside, I didn't want to play one of my beautiful wooden guitars, so I played my all graphite CA Guitar. It performed flawlessly, looked cool and was unaffected by a swing in humidity & air temperature (late afternoon to evening). Check out CA Guitars at

Fat Boy Guitar ! - July 3, 2007

Mark Swanson builds unique instruments. One is a stubby looking guitar he calls the 'Fat Boy'. After a month long email conversation about guitars and performing, Mark & I have come to an agreement, and I'm soon to be on his 'artist list'. I take delivery of a double soundhole Redwood/Rosewood Fat Boy on Friday. You can check out his work on I'll post an update on the Fat Boy once I've had a chance to get acquainted with it. Stay tuned.

New Guitar(s) !! - May 23, 2007

I've just taken delivery of two (2) new guitars from Jason Harshbarger at Highland Strings. They are exquisite !! I'll post photos soon. If you are a guitar player who likes 'creative' and loves 'tone', then you need to check out Jason's instruments ( I can't wait for him to build me another one (please don't let Dory hear me say this). :-) Really wonderful guitars. Wait until you see them. I cannot wait to use them in the studio.

Chemistry on stage. - May 13, 2007

Doug Alan Wilcox, a great singer/songwriter and good friend, joined me on-stage last night as my percussionist. What a fun night of musical spontaneity !

Spring Update - March 28, 2007

Spring-like weather has finally arrived and I've got 'summer fever'.
I'll be working diligently to get one of my two CD's duplicated and released over the next couple months. I'm currently stuck in the graphics phase, but there is light at the end (I can see it).
I'm beginning to perform a new song that both Dory & I really like. I hope to play it for you soon.

CD Project(s) Happening ! - December 5, 2006

My CD's have been mastered (that's right, CD's - two of them), and the next step is to decide on packaging and begin the artwork phase. My son Ian (Graphic Design student) will be helping we with the art visuals. I'm pleased with the music and I can't wait for actual release early next year. I'll keep posting updates.
Note: My original intent was for one 12-14 song CD, but after recording eight songs in October, and realizing that I had already recorded 10, that maybe two CD's would be better than one super long one. Sooo, I'll be releasing a 10-song CD title 'Stories To Be Told', and a 9-song CD title 'Another Way '. Warm up your CD player !

Great Day in the Recording Studio !! - October 26, 2006

I've just spent the most wonderful day recording eight new songs at Master View Recording Studio in Dryden, NY with the incredible Peter Hopper. It has been just a phenomenal day ! I can't wait to have the songs mastered and the CD project completed. Our target date is around the first of the year. I'm so excited. I'll keep everyone posted with any & all updates.
